YouRule: encouraging children’s physical activity by coding the rules of the game

The YouRule system aims to encourage both physical activity and learning to code for children and teenagers. The system lets end-users program the rules of a sports game (any kind they can invent), then allows them to wear sensors and play that game physically by the game rules they coded (It is not a video game).

The HBKU innovation grant 2019 allowed the design and implementation of a proof-of-concept of the YouRule system with wearable electronics wirelessly connected to a laptop computer.

The project goal aligns with two pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 regarding Health (monitoring, analyzing, and encouraging physical activity to prevent obesity and diabetes) and Education (knowledge-based economy, STEM, and culture). This system has a US Patent Application (https://www.patentguru.com/US20210252370A1 ) followed up by QF-IDKT (Invention 2019-053) proposed by Khalid Kunji and myself. It needs to reach the demonstration stage to attract investors for further development as a marketable product for licensing or for a startup.
