Dr. Amr Magdy
Amr Magdy is a Senior Scientist at the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). He is also a tenured Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), and a co-founding faculty member of UCR’s Center for Geospatial Sciences. His research spans spatial data science, large-scale data management and analytics, emerging applications of large language models, and quantum computing. His work has been recognized with the NSF CAREER Award, the Google-CAHSI Award, a Microsoft Research Award, and several best-paper and finalist distinctions at leading conferences, including IEEE ICDE, ACM SIGSPATIAL, IEEE MDM, and SSTD. He has published in premier venues such as ACM SIGSPATIAL, ACM SIGMOD, VLDB, IEEE ICDE, IEEE TKDE, and the VLDB Journal. His research has contributed to real products through several industrial collaborations in the Middle East and the USA. Dr. Magdy has held major leadership roles within the ACM SIGSPATIAL community, including serving as Program Committee Chair of the ACM SIGSPATIAL Conference and as the founding Chair of the ACM SIGSPATIAL Recognition Committee, and founded Q-Spatial, the workshop on quantum computing for spatial applications.
